Experiment and Play

There is no “right way” to art journal. The very nature of art journaling makes it a very personal process, completely unique to you and your own way of creating. Experiment [try new ways of doing things] and see whether or not they work for you.

A Series of Steps

Think of your journals as a series of steps. Whether you work on consecutive pages or jump all around, it’s always one foot in front of the other. Glue a piece of paper down, spread some paint, draw a face. Make marks, put washi tape down, and just generally enjoy the process.

The Power of Words

Though there are no real rules to art journaling, for me the most powerful part is often the use of words. As implied by the words “art journal”, documenting your life through a series of words [quotes, song lyrics, personal thoughts, etc.] and pictures is the main idea behind this art form.
